Who is Sky Superfast 35 best for?

Sky Superfast 35 is most suited to smaller households who only use the Internet to stream SD or HD TV, and for browsing such as online shopping and social media.

The average speeds of 36Mbps will support one or two people going online at the same time, so is best suited to homes without a lot of smart devices sharing the connection.

Overall, Sky Superfast 35 is best for:

  • Smaller households where only one, or sometimes two, people will be online at the same time
  • People who only stream SD or HD TV, as the speed isn't really fast enough for streaming Ultra HD 4K
  • People who use the Internet for online browsing, such as shopping and social media
  • Customers who want a bundle deal with Sky TV Essentials and a Sky Q Box

It's worth noting that Sky's faster Superfast 80 package is currently priced £11 less per month than Superfast 35, yet offers faster average speeds of 61Mbps, which can support more devices as well as being more suitable for online activities like downloading films, gaming, and for those who work from home.

Superfast 35 is a good choice for people moving from basic copper broadband to fibre, and also those with small households. However, as Superfast 80 รข€" and even Ultrafast - currently costs less for new customers, it's worth the upgrade for those new to Sky broadband.

What does Sky Superfast 35 offer?

Sky Broadband Superfast 35 is an entry-level superfast fibre plan, introduced in February 2022 as an affordable choice.

However, while it first launched at £25 per month, it now costs £38 per month and isn't any cheaper than the faster Superfast 80 plan.

Package Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
Superfast 35 Broadband 36Mb average £40 £5 24 months
offer Offer: WiFi Max just £6.50/mth + (£5 refundable setup fee for new customers if applicable)
Superfast Broadband 61Mb average £25 £5 24 months
offer Offer: WiFi Max just £4/mth + (£5 refundable setup fee for new customers if applicable)

Sky Superfast 35 offers average download speeds of 36Mb per second, comes with an 18-month minimum term, and a £5 setup fee - although this is usually refunded for new customers.

Customers living within full fibre enabled areas will have the package installed on a full fibre basis, so it's easier for them to upgrade in the future. Those who haven't yet been passed by Openreach's FTTP network will get the plan connected through their existing BT phone line.

All Sky broadband customers will receive the Sky Broadband Hub free of charge, and can benefit from a free whole-home WiFi guarantee that promises at least 3Mbps download speeds or some money back.

Sky do increase prices for in-contract customers on an annual basis, but they don't specify by how much. In April 2024, they increased prices by an average of 6.7%, lower than most other providers, with BT increasing prices by 7.9%. Customers were also given the option to leave their contract early without penalty, which again, most other providers did not.

Superfast 35 + calls

Sky Superfast 35 comes with the cost of line rental included in the monthly fee, and all customers get a home phone line with pay as you go calls.

Pay as you go calls come with the following charges as standard:

  • 27 pence per minute to UK landlines and UK mobiles
  • 25 pence connection fee

Customers can also choose to add one of the following inclusive call plans:

Call plan Includes Monthly price
Sky Talk Evenings and Weekends Extra Calls to UK landlines and UK mobiles Monday to Friday evenings, 7pm to 7am, and all weekend £8
Sky Talk Anytime Extra Calls to UK landlines and UK mobiles at any time £16
Sky Talk International Extra Calls to UK landlines and UK mobiles at any time, plus calls to 50 popular destinations £18

Sky Talk plans include calls to both landlines and mobiles in the UK, and customers can choose an international plan if they regularly call abroad.

Superfast 35 + Sky TV

While Sky customers can take broadband on its own, they can save more by bundling it with a Sky TV plan.

Customers can bundle Superfast 35 with Sky TV Essentials for a low-cost way to access over 200 live Freesat channels with the benefits and features of a Sky Q box.

Package TV Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
Sky TV Essentials + Superfast 35 Broadband 200 36Mb average £33 Free 24 months
offer Offer: No setup fee

For those who want to subscribe to Sky Stream however, as with the standalone broadband plans above, customers can upgrade to Sky TV + Superfast Broadband which offers faster download speeds of 61Mb per second for the same price per month.

Package TV Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
Sky Entertainment + Netflix + Full Fibre 75 150 75Mb average £36 Free 24 months
offer Offer: Save £8/mth on Sky Entertainment & Netflix + Sky broadband just £17/mth + Free setup (Ends 03/12/2024)
Sky Glass + Sky Entertainment + Netflix + Full Fibre 75 150 75Mb average £50 £20 48 months
offer Offer: Save £9 on Sky Entertainment & Netflix + Reduced price broadband and no broadband setup costs (Ends 03/12/2024)

Customers bundling can save around £12 per month compared to taking Sky TV and broadband services separately, considering any new customer offers available at the time.

Savings are similar whether customers choose the new Sky Stream Puck box, or the Sky Glass TV set with Sky TV.

It's worth noting that while Sky Stream supports 4K Ultra HD, it has a minimum download speed requirement of 30Mb per second, which Superfast 35 may not achieve.

HD viewing on Stream or Sky Q apps requires a minimum download speed of 25Mb per second, so this broadband package is likely to support viewing in 1080p HD.

Superfast 35 vs Superfast 80

We've already mentioned how Sky often price the faster Superfast 80 plan below that of this Superfast 35 package.

Therefore, we'd strongly recommend customers check the latest Sky broadband prices, as there might well be a cheaper deal with the faster plan.

Here are the current offers for new customers side-by-side:

Package Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
Superfast 35 Broadband 36Mb average £40 £5 24 months
offer Offer: WiFi Max just £6.50/mth + (£5 refundable setup fee for new customers if applicable)
Superfast Broadband 61Mb average £25 £5 24 months
offer Offer: WiFi Max just £4/mth + (£5 refundable setup fee for new customers if applicable)

At the time of writing, Superfast 80 is priced at just £27 per month for the first 18 months, and is therefore much cheaper than Superfast 35.

Both plans have an out of contract price of £43 after the 18-month minimum term ends, and both would be subject to annual price rises.

Should you upgrade?

Ultimately, it'll come down to the offers available from Sky at the time of purchase, but at the time of writing, customers should really consider upgrading to Sky Superfast 80 as the plan offers faster download speeds for less money each month.

Uploads will also be faster, at around 16Mbps with Superfast 80, compared to 9Mbps with Superfast 35.

Overall, customers can get faster broadband with the same excellent customer service, without spending more simply by opting for Sky Superfast 80 instead.

How does Sky Superfast 35 compare?

Sky Superfast 35 offers average speeds of 36Mb per second, this is equivalent to many other provider's entry-level fibre deals.

Against equivalent packages from other providers Sky Superfast 35 is a little more expensive, but as we've mentioned, that's likely because the provider chooses to price its faster plan cheaper.

Package Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
Superfast 35 Broadband 36Mb average £40 £5 24 months
offer Offer: WiFi Max just £6.50/mth + (£5 refundable setup fee for new customers if applicable)
Fab Fibre 36Mb average £21 £10 12 months
offer Offer: Save £3/mth until 4 July 2024 then £24/mth + NOW TV membership available reduced for 12 months (Ends 04/07/2024)

offer Offer: Black Friday: £50 Reward Card + Save over £4/mth + No setup fee + Exclusive offers and discounts for Plusnet customers (Ends 11/12/2024)
Fibre 35 38Mb average £28 Free 18 months
offer Offer: Free setup and P&P

Similar packages from Sky-owned NOW Broadband, Plusnet and TalkTalk, are cheaper than Sky's Superfast 35 package, with BT's Fibre Essential also costing less at £33.99 per month.

NOW Broadband's Fab Fibre is one to take particular note of, as NOW is owned by Sky, and customers can get extra savings on NOW TV memberships.

Plusnet is also comparable to Sky, ranking highly in the latest independent research into customer service satisfaction. While TalkTalk Fibre 35 can also be bundled with a TV service.

How fast is Sky Superfast 35?

Sky Superfast 35 Broadband offers average download speeds of 36Mb per second, and average upload speeds of 9Mb per second.

Usually, the connection will be provided over fibre to the cabinet technology, this utilises the copper phone line network from the street cabinet to a customer's home. It can be slower than full fibre, but currently has much wider availability.

Where customers are living within an Openreach fibre to the premises (FTTP) network area, Sky Superfast 35 will be provided as a full fibre connection. This will be more reliable as the fibre cable comes directly into a customer's home, reducing any signal attenuation due to long cabling distances.

Advertised average speeds must be experienced by at least 50% of a provider's customer base during the peak hours of 8pm to 10pm in the evening. This means, most customers will get the average advertised speed of 36Mb per second or faster.

Sky Speed Guarantee

Sky offer customers a broadband speed guarantee, they promise that if you don't get the minimum guaranteed speed, they'll give you a month's free broadband subscription.

Under Ofcom's voluntary code of broadband speeds, customers can also leave their contracts early and without penalty if Sky don't deliver their minimum guaranteed speed and can't fix it within 30 days.

Sky do go beyond most other providers with their money back guarantee, and customers can claim up to twice during their minimum term.

Customers can expect a minimum guaranteed speed on Superfast 35 of around 25Mb per second, although the guaranteed speed is personalised to a property and so will vary.

WiFi guarantee

Sky also offer customers a free WiFi guarantee, which promises minimum wireless speeds of 3Mb per second in every room or customers can claim a month's free broadband subscription.

Sky's Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee is separate from Sky WiFi Max, which is a paid for service and also includes free off-peak engineer visits, daily line checks, and 2GB of Sky mobile data if their fixed line connection goes down. It currently costs £6.50 per month, and prices increase after the minimum term.

Overall, while Sky's WiFi guarantee is a nice extra, the minimum speeds of 3Mbps may seem paltry to some users, especially those on faster plans.

Router

Sky Superfast 35 customers will receive the latest Sky Broadband Hub, which is the same router given to customers on faster full fibre plans, including Sky Ultrafast and Gigafast packages.

That's good news for Superfast 35 customers as they'll be getting a wireless router capable of handling much faster speeds.

The Sky Broadband Hub features dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) technology along with WPA2 security. It also meets the Wi-Fi 5 standard. While this has now been superseded by Wi-Fi 6, it's still in broad use, with BT also only supporting WiFi 5 in their router.

The Sky Broadband Hub has 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports to connect devices directly to the router and eight antennae to help project the wi-fi signal around the home.

Customers who struggle with a poor wireless signal in their home will need to upgrade to Sky WiFi Max however, which offers an upgraded router as well as free access to WiFi boosters that can extend coverage in a home.

As mentioned, Sky WiFi Max, costs £6.50 per month and includes the latest Sky Max Hub as well as WiFi Pods if customers need extra coverage.

Verdict: Is Sky Superfast 35 any good?

Sky Broadband Superfast 35 is a strange deal in some respects because it isn't cheaper than the faster Superfast 80 fibre package offered by Sky. Indeed, at the time of writing, even the Ultrafast and Ultrafast Plus plans cost less.

However, Superfast 35 offers an entry into fibre broadband that some customers may otherwise not have and, with the switch-off of copper broadband moving closer, it's important for customers to have those options.

The Superfast 35 package has the following benefits:

  • Offers a personalised speed guarantee
  • Delivered via full fibre where available
  • Comes with the Sky Broadband Hub
  • TV and call packages can be added
  • Bundle deals available with Sky Q and Sky TV Essentials

Overall, we like Sky Superfast 35 Broadband, but it's difficult to look beyond the faster speeds offered by its sibling package Sky Superfast Broadband. Those who want access to Sky Q Essentials can bundle it with this deal however, which is this package's main USP.
