Lit Fibre Broadband: What's on offer?

Lit Fibre is a relatively new full fibre broadband provider, who now provide access to ultrafast and gigabit broadband speeds over the CityFibre network.

Lit broadband is full fibre to the home, and customers can choose from one of three broadband package options:

  • Lit 100
  • Lit 500
  • Lit 1000

All packages offer symmetrical upload and download speeds, unlimited usage, a WiFi 6 enabled router, and a promise of no mid-contract price hikes.

Customers can also choose between two contract lengths; 18 and 24 months, with the shorter 18-month contracts costing slightly more each month.

Benefits of Lit Fibre broadband include:

  • Up to date router technology with WiFi 6 as standard
  • Options to upgrade the main router and add mesh devices to boost wireless coverage
  • Proprietary mobile app to allow users to monitor their network, including speed tests and parental controls
  • No mid-contract price hikes promise
  • Ai-free customer support, so you can always speak to a human

Availability of Lit Fibre broadband

Lit Fibre was an independent full fibre network until mid 2024 when they sold their wholesale network to CityFibre.

A benefit of this deal however, is that Lit Fibre continues to operate as an independent retail business and now has access to the entire CityFibre network of over 3 million premises, and targets to reach 8 million in the coming years.

Originally, Lit Fibre covered areas in the Midlands and just north of London, including St Albans, Watford, Chelmsford, Sudbury, Clacton-on-Sea, Redditch, Stratford-upon-Avon, parts of Birmingham, and parts of the West Country, including Chippenham, Melksham, Westbury, Warminster, and Midsomer Norton on the outskirts of Bath.

CityFibre's coverage is much broader, with availability across England and Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Leicester, Peterborough, Coventry, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Ipswitch, Southend-on-Sea, Reading, Swindon, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Chichester, Worthing, Brighton and Eastbourne.

CityFibre plan to reach 8 million premises in the next few years so availability is likely to continue expanding for Lit Fibre too.

Lit Fibre broadband speeds

Lit Fibre currently offer customers the choice of just three broadband speeds.

All plans offer symmetrical upload and download speeds, and of course, usage is unlimited.

Average download speed Average upload speed
Lit 100 100Mb 100Mb
Lit 500 500Mb 500Mb
Lit 1000 1000Mb 1000Mb

The advertised averages listed above must be received by at least 50% of Lit Fibre broadband customers during the peak hours of 8pm to 10pm in the evening when the network is busiest, so they're a good indication of what speed we can expect to receive.

Those moving to full fibre broadband for the first time are likely to find the Lit 100 package more than adequate, with the plan easily supporting activities including streaming, video calls, online gaming and working from home.

As more users share a connection, households will start to find the faster Lit 500 and Lit 1000 packages beneficial, as they'll better support multiple occupants going online at the same time, even when carrying out bandwidth heavy activities.

New customer offers

New customers signing up to Lit Fibre broadband for the first time will be eligible for the new customer offers and prices listed in the table above.

Key terms for Lit Fibre broadband deals

Lit Fibre broadband can be taken on either an 18- or 24-month minimum term contract. It's worth noting that monthly prices for the 18-month plans are more expensive, but cancelling either option early will result in early leaving charges being applied.

Lit Fibre promise no mid-contract price hikes however, so the headline price given will remain the same for the duration of the minimum term with no unexpected increases.

Lit Fibre provide a branded router to all customers, as well as options to upgrade the router and add mesh devices to extend the wireless network. While these options have additional fees, the equipment remains property of Lit Fibre and will need to be returned when customers choose to end their service plan.
