Customers are supplied with an Icotera wireless router and have unlimited data usage on all plans.

4th Utility connect homes on their own independent full fibre network, capable of delivering gigabit speeds on both downloads and uploads.

4th Utility offer customers symmetrical speeds, which mean the upload speed is as fast as the headline download speed. Often, broadband, and even full fibre broadband, can be asymmetrical where uploads are much slower.

4th Utility offers customers a choice of three contract lengths, 24-months, 12-months and 30-days. Cancelling a plan before the end of the minimum term period will be subject to early leaving fees, so it's important to select a contract length you can commit to.

4th Utility say prices will increase each year in March, and will go up by Consumer Price Index (CPI) + 3.9%.

At the end of the minimum term, prices will increase to the standard monthly price, or out of contract price. At this point customers will have the choice to re-contract with 4th Utility or move to another provider.

The wireless router supplied by 4th Utility remains their property and customers may be requested to return it when they end their service.

4th Utility provide a social broadband tariff for low-income families and individuals who need extra help to stay connected online.

The social tariff offers average download and upload speeds of 30Mbps on a rolling 30-day contract.

There are no credit checks to pass, but applicants should be in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Jobseekers allowance
  • Employment and support allowance
  • Pension credit

However, 4th Utility also say customers living in an eligible building that qualifies for the social tariff won't have to provide any supporting documentation.

The provider also says that if your speed falls below 70% of your average advertised speed when connecting with a wired connection for 3 consecutive days or more, 4th Utility will investigate the slow broadband speed as a fault.

Can I use my own router with 4th Utility broadband?

Yes - 4th Utility say customers can supply their own router for use with their broadband and will provide a bridge free of charge to connect the router to the fibre optic cable.

However, 4th Utility also supply all broadband customers with an Icotera router at no extra cost as well.

Do I need a home phone line with 4th Utility broadband?

No - 4th Utility broadband is delivered over a dedicated fibre optic line that will be installed into your home when you sign up to get connected. It doesn't use the phone line network at all.

However, 4th Utility only provide data-only broadband lines, which means it's not possible to also sign up for a home phone service.
