How to watch BT Sport

Last updated: 3 January 2025   By Julia Kukiewicz

BT Sport is now available to watch on TNT Sports via Sky, Virgin Media, BT, and smart devices using the Discovery+ app.

TNT Sports is the new home of BT Sport, having been officially renamed in July 2023. Yet, customers can still access the same channel line-up and sporting events from BT Sport.

Virgin Media remains the cheapest place to watch BT Sport, with TNT Sports subscriptions costing from as little as £16.20 per month with Flex.

It's also possible to add BT Sport to Virgin Media's TV 360 platform, as well as watch it through Sky TV, BT TV, and directly on the Discovery+ app.

How to watch BT Sport

While new customer offers can be a useful way to save money, the cheapest way to watch BT Sport will depend on the other services a customer wants, and whether they're in a position to bundle broadband.

Virgin Media offers the cheapest add-on price for the BT Sport pack at £10 per month on special offer with Flex, and they include the channels in HD and UHD as standard.

Yet, for those who want more TV, customers will want to look to Sky or Virgin Media TV 360, which also include a range of additional premium pay TV channels.

Monthly price Definition Contract term
Virgin Media Flex £18 (£16.20 with bill credit offer) HD & UHD 1 month
Virgin Media TV 360 £18 HD & UHD 1 month
BT £20 SD 1 month
BT £26 HD 1 month
Sky TV £28 (or £25 with Sky Sports) HD 1 month

It's also possible to watch BT Sport (TNT Sports) on the Discovery+ app. However, there are no longer any discounts available for existing broadband customers of BT or EE, like there were with the BT Sport app.

Monthly price Definition Contract term
Discovery+ premium £30.99 HD 1 month

The Discovery+ app is available on a range of devices including Apple TV, Xbox, Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung, Roku, and Chromecast.

BT Sport bundles

The BT Sport add-on price is just one way of comparing deals and might not provide the cheapest overall option, especially for customers who want other TV channels or to bundle a specific broadband plan.

Here are the cheapest TV and broadband bundles with BT Sport:

Package TV Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
M125 Fibre Broadband + Flex + TNT Sports 155 132Mb average £46.50 £10 18 months
offer Offer: TNT Sports just £18/mth + Get 10% credit back on every subscription you add to Flex

offer Offer: Save £2/mth on TNT Sports + Reduced price broadband + Free setup (worth £39.95) (Ends 03/02/2025)

Virgin Media offer the cheapest BT Sport bundle with their new Flex TV service, with BT Sport costing just £16.20 per month after the 10% bill credit offer on subscriptions is applied.

Flex from Virgin Media includes all of the BT Sport channels in HD as well as BT Sport Ultimate in 4K, while BT only include the BT Sport channels in SD, and charge an extra £6 per month for the HD pack, so Virgin Media could work out cheaper overall.

BT also offer a good value for money option with their BT Sport TV and Full Fibre 100 plan, where customers can currently get a £50 Reward Card plus free setup. Although note that viewers will have to pay £6 more to watch BT Sport in full 1080p HD.

For more content, customers can also save with Virgin Media's Bigger Bundle, which also includes their M250 plan. This now costs £51 per month in their Winter Sale with the TNT Sports Collection added as an optional extra.

Sky TV is more expensive for BT Sport, and therefore is probably only a good option if customers also want to take Sky Sports, as they'll get an additional £3 monthly discount on the BT Sport pack and Sky Sports is reduced too.

BT Sport premium bundles

For customers who want whole home entertainment packages with BT Sport included, here are the top-end bundles from Virgin Media, BT, and Sky.

Sky's TV plan includes Sky Sports and BT Sport in HD, along with Sky Entertainment including Sky Atlantic, and Netflix. It doesn't include Sky Cinema which costs an extra £8 per month, although this does come with Paramount+ worth £6.99.

Virgin Media's Mega Volt bundle includes Sky Sports in HD, along with Sky Entertainment, Sky Cinema, and Netflix. It also comes with gigabit broadband boasting 1.13Gbps download speeds. Customers will need to add the TNT Sports Collection to watch BT Sport however, which costs an additional £18 per month (although that's included in the prices above).

BT's Full Works TV package also includes BT Sport and Sky Sports in HD, along with access to Sky Entertainment and Sky Cinema via NOW TV Memberships. Customers can choose faster broadband if they live in a full fibre enabled area with speeds available up to 900Mb.

BT Sport on Virgin Media

Virgin Media offer the cheapest way to watch BT Sport, so let's take a closer look at what's included.

BT Sport in HD and the BT Sport Ultimate 4K channel come as standard with Virgin Media's TNT Sports Collection add-on, which can be taken with either Stream or TV 360.

As we've seen, the absolute cheapest way to watch BT Sport as an add-on in a bundle is with Virgin Media's new Flex service.

The BT Sport pack includes all four main channels in full 1080p HD and customers also get the BT Sport Ultimate channel. At the time of writing, the pack costs just £18 per month and, aside from Virgin Media broadband, any other subscriptions are optional.

Package TV Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
M125 Fibre Broadband + Flex + TNT Sports 155 132Mb average £46.50 £10 18 months
offer Offer: TNT Sports just £18/mth + Get 10% credit back on every subscription you add to Flex

Flex offers 10% bill credit on any subscriptions paid for via the Virgin bill, so it's possible to get BT Sports for as little as £16.20 with this offer.

Customers can choose any broadband plan from Virgin Media, including M125, M250, M350, M500 or even their fastest Gig1. Although, at the time of writing, M125 is the cheapest option due to special offers reducing the monthly price to just £25 per month.

Flex costs £10 upfront and has a £5 monthly fee, plus any TV packs a customer chooses to add, and these are all on a rolling monthly basis, so there is plenty of flexibility for those on a budget.

It's also possible to add the TNT Sports Collection to any Virgin Media pre-made bundle on the TV 360 platform.

However, where this used to be included as standard in the Bigger Bundle, Bigger Bundle + Sports, and Mega Volt Bundles, customers will now have to pay an additional £18 per month on top of the below prices:

Package TV Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
Bigger bundle 190 362Mb average £33 Free 18 months

The Sport and Big Sport bundles include BT Sport in SD, and customers need to pay an extra £6 per month to upgrade to HD. The BT Full Works package includes BT Sport in HD and also bundles the BT Sport Ultimate 4K channel.

One big bonus of BT over Virgin Media and Sky is the flexibility to switch TV bundle options on a monthly basis. So, customers can watch sports during a particular season or league, and switch to movies or entertainment at other times of the year, such as during Christmas.

BT Sport on Sky

The BT Sport pack is fairly expensive on Sky compared to BT and Virgin Media, yet for those who also want Sky Sports it's worth knowing what's on offer.

BT Sport costs £30 per month on Sky TV, although it's currently reduced to £28 per month, and £25 per month for customers who also take a Sky Sports pack.

Package TV Broadband Monthly price Upfront price Contract term
Sky Essential TV + TNT Sports 104 N/a £43 Free 24 months

The BT Sport channels are included in HD as standard, although customers will have to upgrade to the Ultra HD pack at £4 per month to access BT Sport Ultimate 4K.

It's available on both Sky Stream and Sky Q, although Sky Q customers can only add the BT Sport pack on a 24-month contract, while Sky Stream viewers are tied for just 1 month.

BT Sport channels on Sky

Sky TV offers the following channels in its BT Sport pack:

  • BT Sport 1 HD
  • BT Sport 2 HD
  • BT Sport 3 HD
  • BT Sport 4 HD (previously ESPN)
  • BT Sport Ultimate (with the Ultra HD pack)

Sky also include Discovery+ Premium with their BT Sport pack, and all Sky Stream, Sky Glass, and Sky Q customers get access to Discovery+ Standard.

BT Sport on NOW

While it's possible to sign up to the Sky Sports pack on NOW through either a full Sports Membership or a day pass, NOW doesn't offer the ability to watch BT Sport.

It's most likely that customers who watch NOW through a smart device, console or smart TV, will also be able to access the BT Sport app, allowing them the ability to stream both Sky Sports and BT Sport.

See below for more on the BT Sport app, or read our review of NOW TV.

BT Sport on Plusnet

Plusnet broadband customers used to be able to access a discount on the BT Sport pack on Sky TV, however, this was discontinued in May 2023.

Before the offer was ended, Plusnet broadband customers could add the pack in SD for £17.15 per month, and £20.01 for the pack in HD, which offered savings of around £8 per month.

In May 2023, Plusnet also discontinued the offer for broadband customers who signed up to the BT Sport Monthly Pass, which was also reduced to £17.15 from the usual price of £29.99.

The removal of these offers come after Plusnet-owner BT has refocused the budget brand to offer simple broadband packages with no frills, as the Plusnet TV and Plusnet Mobile services have also now been withdrawn.

Discovery+ Premium

The Discovery+ app can be access through a range of smart devices and is a good way to watch BT Sport for anyone who doesn't want to switch broadband or take out a pay TV plan.

The Discovery+ premium plan costs £30.99 per month, and includes BT Sport in HD as well as access to the BT Sport Ultimate channel. Customers will also get the channels in Discovery+ standard and basic too.

Supported devices include:

  • Xbox One, Series X and Series S
  • Chromecast (Gen 2 and newer)
  • Fire TV
  • Android TV
  • Kindle Fire Tablet
  • Apple TV (4th gen onwards)
  • Samsung Smart TVs (2017 onwards)
  • LG TVs (2018 onwards)
  • Roku

While there are no longer discounts for customers of BT, EE or Plusnet, some broadband customers get Discovery+ basic included for free.

Basic doesn't include TNT Sports or BT Sport, but it does include Animal Planet, Discovery, Discovery History, Discovery Science, DMAX, Food Network, HGTV, ID, Quest, Quest Red, TLC and Turbo.

Discovery+ Basic is included for free for BT customers, while Sky TV customers get Discovery+ Standard at no extra cost instead, which also includes Eurosport.

How to get BT Sport for free

BT have recently started offering some major live matches free-to-air through the BT Sport app, the BT Sport YouTube channel, and on btsport.com.

In May 2023, they announced they would be making three football league final matches free for anyone to watch, including the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and the Europa Conference League finals.

It's a great way to watch BT Sport for free, and comes after BT Sport was acquired by Warner Bros Discovery, which is why the channel pack has been renamed TNT Sports.

What's on BT Sport?

BT Sport have an increasing range of sporting events and fixtures covering football, rugby, motorsports, cricket, and boxing.

Here's a rundown of what's on BT Sport:

Football on BT Sport

  • 52 Premier League matches
  • UEFA Champions League
  • Europa League
  • Ligue 1
  • Serie A
  • Europa Conference League
  • National League
  • A-League
  • World Cup 2022

Rugby on BT Sport

  • Gallagher Premiership Rugby
  • Heineken Champions Cup
  • EPCR Challenge Cup
  • Premiership Rugby Cup
  • Six Nations
  • World Rugby Internationals
  • Rugby World Cup 2023

Motorsport on BT Sport

  • MotoGP

Cricket on BT Sport

  • Test
  • One Day Internationals
  • T20
  • The Ashes

Other sports

  • UFC
  • Tennis
  • WWE
  • Boxing
  • Hockey

Alongside presenters such as Jake Humphrey and Darrell Currie, their team of ex-sports star commentators includes Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch, and Michael Owen.

Unsurprisingly, since they have eleven channels, Sky Sports still holds far more exclusive rights than BT and can show a greater range of sports.

Sky is showing 128 Premier League games, compared to BT Sport's 52 matches. Sky Sports also have sole access to many of the big-name events, such as the entire Formula One season, the Ryder Cup and the NFL Super Bowl.

For more on combined Sky Sports and BT Sport packages.

Verdict: Best way to watch BT Sport

Virgin Media offer the cheapest TV and broadband bundles with BT Sport in HD and UHD as standard. The only downside is Virgin customers won't get Discovery+, and the app isn't supported by the TV 360 or Virgin Stream boxes yet either.

However, the cheapest way to watch BT Sport will really come down to what a customer wants from the home entertainment and telecoms services.

BT TV offers flexibility with monthly rolling contracts across each TV plan, allowing customers to switch between sports and entertainment as they wish. Yet, the overall price of BT services makes them a more expensive choice to Virgin Media.

While Sky include BT Sport in HD as standard, it's probably the most expensive way to watch BT Sport, although it may make sense to those who also want to bundle Sky Sports, and customers do get free access to Discovery+.

A Discovery+ Premium subscription may be a good option for those with smart devices who don't want to switch broadband plans or take out a lengthy pay TV contract. Although there are no longer any exclusive discounts for certain customers.

Overall, our pick for the best way to watch BT Sport remains through Virgin Media, although customers will need to be living in a Virgin enabled area to benefit.
