New 'gen 2' Sky Glass TV set is available from today, with prices starting at just £14 per month.

Sky have unveiled the new, second generation, Sky Glass TV set, with improvements made to both the picture and sound.

Pricing is set to start from just £14 per month, and the new set will be available to buy from Sky from 12th February 2025.

Sky have also released details of a new, upcoming, Sky Glass Air TV set, which looks set to offer a cheaper alternative to Sky Glass and will be made available later this year.

Sky Glass gen 2

Sky Glass gen 2, released today - 12th February 2025 - sees upgrades to both the picture quality and sound, with a brighter picture and more immersive experience.

The built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar sees an extra speaker added, with a total of seven speakers compared to six on the 1st generation Glass. The new Glass gen 2 set now includes a new dual sub-woofer, left, right and centre speakers, and two upward firing speakers to project sound into and around the room.

Sky Glass gen 2's screen is brighter than that of its predecessor, with a brighter 4K Quantum Dot display and new HDR and precision contrast enhancements.

The screen now benefits from more local dimming zones to improve contrast and decrease power consumption, while an ambient light sensor and dynamic gamma adjustment also help to improve contrast.

In terms of power consumption, Sky have done well to improve the efficiency of the two larger models, while the 43" set remains as efficient as its first-generation counterpart.

Customers can still choose from 43", 55" and 65" size sets, while there are now three new colour choices, Volcanic Grey, Arctic Silver, and Atlantic Blue, which look much like a dark grey, light silver/white, and a slightly dusky, mid-blue colour.

Fraser Stirling, Global Chief Product Officer for Comcast and Sky said, "We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps. The new Sky Glass Gen 2 gives people our best TV experience yet, with a brighter picture and even more cinematic sound, and with flexible ways to buy it, it's more affordable than ever to get Sky TV."

Pricing

Customers willing to sign up to a 48-month minimum term contract can purchase Sky Glass gen 2 interest-free from just £14 per month for the 43" set.

Other purchase options include spreading payments over a 24-month term, or buying the set outright for the full price in one go.

43" 55" 65"
Upfront payment in full £699 £949 £1199
24-month interest-free loan £28 £38 £48
48-month interest-free loan £14 £19 £24

Both the 24-month and 48-month interest-free loan options require a £20 upfront payment, and customers will need to pay more for the wall-mount.

Purchasers will also need to sign up to a Sky TV plan, either Sky Essential TV from £15 per month, or Sky Ultimate TV from £22 per month, with current offers.

While it's possible to take Sky TV on a rolling monthly plan, it's worth noting many, if not all, of Sky Glass's features will only work with an active Sky TV subscription.

Sky Glass Air

Alongside the launch of the 2nd generation Sky Glass set, Sky have also released details of an upcoming alternative option: the Sky Glass Air.

Sky say the Glass Air will be "the smarter TV for less", suggesting it will be both a lighter and cheaper version. The Glass Air also looks to be much thinner than the Glass gen 2.

One downgraded feature appears to be the loss of the Dolby Atmos soundbar from the Glass gen 2 set, with the Sky Glass Air housing Dolby Audio stereo speakers instead, although this no doubt takes a lot of the extra bulk out of the set.

Sky Glass Air will still benefit from a 4K Quantum Dot HDR screen though, as well as global dimming and contrast enhancement.

The new Glass Air will come in the same three sizes, 43", 55", and 65", while colours will change to Carbon Grey, Cotton White and Sea Green.

Sky have yet to release any details on price, although we heavily expect it will be cheaper than the Glass gen 2 set, with further announcements and availability set for "later this year".
