Netflix has increased their UK subscription prices between £1 and £2 per month on all tiers.
Netflix has increased the price on all three of its subscription tiers in the UK, with prices for existing customers likely to follow a one-month notification period.
Standard with Ads has increased from £4.99 to £5.99 per month, while Standard has gone up from £10.99 to £12.99 per month, and Premium now costs £18.99 per month.
The price of 'Extra Member' add-ons has also gone up by £1 per month.
Netflix last increased prices in the UK in October 2023, when we saw the previous 'Basic' plan increase by £1 to £7.99, while the Premium plan went up from £15.99 to £17.99 per month.
Standard with Ads, launched in October 2022 as 'Basic with Ads' for £4.99 per month, has seen it's first price increase to £5.99 per month.
Netflix Standard is also increasing this time, from £10.99 to £12.99 per month, while Premium is going up from £17.99 to £18.99 per month.
Standard and Premium members can also add an 'Extra Member', which previously cost £4.99 without ads, but this too has now risen to £5.99 per month, while a new option for an 'Extra Member with ads' has been added at £4.99 per month.
Paolo Pescatore, a technology analyst at PP Foresight, said, "The streaming business is following mainstream TV in its price rises, and we should get accustomed to them."
Although, he also added, "Netflix must tread extremely carefully... there is a ceiling, a point at which consumers will become incredibly frustrated by price hikes."
Disney+ and Paramount+, as well as Spotify, all increased prices in 2024, while Amazon introduced adverts to Prime Video, with an option to pay more to go 'ad-free', which saw Amazon Prime Video effectively increase by £2.99 per month.
Pay TV providers are also known to increase prices, with existing customers often locked-in to mid-contract price rises on Sky TV, Virgin Media and BT TV contracts.
In fact, while Virgin Media will be increasing by £3.50 per month in 2025, BT broadband and TV will be going up by £5 per month, and Sky have also announced their price rises for both broadband and TV customers will be 6.2% on average from April.
Indeed, while Netflix customers have the flexibility to downgrade their plan, or cancel it entirely, Sky TV customers in-contract don't have that option unless they also have a bundled Sky broadband plan due to Ofcom rules.
Customers who have a subscription to Netflix in a bundle with either Sky, BT, or Virgin Media, won't see monthly prices rises, although they may see the overall price of their plan increase based on the provider's own price rise policy.
This includes customers with Sky Ultimate TV, as well as BT Entertainment and BT Big Entertainment, and Virgin Media Biggest TV and Mega Volt bundles.
However, those who have upgraded to the Standard or Premium plans with add-ons, may see these individual prices go up.
The cheapest way to add Netflix to a pay TV bundle is with Sky, with Netflix Standard with Ads included for free, and upgrade prices currently discounted to £5 per month for Standard and £10 per month for Premium.
Upgrade prices with BT have yet to increase as well, with Netflix Standard with Ads included for free with Entertainment or Big Entertainment, and upgrade prices costing £6 per month for Standard and £13 per month Premium.
At Virgin Media, new customer upgrade costs for Netflix currently stand at £7 per month for Standard and £13 per month for Premium.
