30,000 homes and businesses in Eastbourne can now access full fibre broadband through CityFibre.
CityFibre's rollout of full fibre to the home broadband in Eastbourne, East Sussex, has reached a milestone of 30,000 homes and businesses.
Resellers include Vodafone and TalkTalk broadband, with symmetrical speeds of up to 2.2Gbps now available with Vodafone throughout the town.
CityFibre plan to continue their build in Eastbourne, and will now be moving into Meads, Roselands and further parts of Old Town.
The independent network's build in Eastbourne commenced in late 2020, with CityFibre making an investment of £26 million in the town's broadband infrastructure.
While Hampden Park was one of the first areas in Eastbourne to be connected, most recently build has completed in Sovereign Harbour, Friday Street and Langney. Ratton, Old Town and Upperton are also areas that are already 'ready for service'.
Residents now passed by CityFibre's network can order full fibre to the home broadband from resellers including Vodafone and TalkTalk, with download speeds ranging from 77Mbps to 2.2Gbps with Vodafone.
Prices also vary between providers, with Vodafone's Full Fibre 80 option costing the least at just £26 per month, while Vodafone's gigabit Full Fibre 910 package is also cheaper than TalkTalk's Full Fibre 900 at £42 compared to £49 respectively.
Vodafone also recently launched an up to 2.2Gbps package in CityFibre enabled areas, with some areas able to sign up for 1.8Gbps, while those on newer XGS-PON connections will get the top 2.2Gbps speeds.
The Full Fibre 1.8 / 2.2 plan costs from £70 per month with free setup, and comes with the latest WiFi 6E Ultra Hub, up to three WiFi 6E boosters, and an automatic 4G back-up device.
As well as CityFibre, Eastbourne residents can also access full fibre broadband through networks including Openreach and Lightning Fibre, which both have good coverage across the town.
Nearby areas including Polegate, Seaford, Bexhill and Hailsham are yet to see any installations by CityFibre, despite also being active along the coast in Brighton & Hove, but they too can access full fibre broadband through networks including Lightning Fibre in Polegate, Seaford, Bexhill and Hailsham; Trooli in Seaford and Bexhill; and Openreach in Eastbourne, Seaford, Hailsham, parts of Bexhill but not Polegate.
Where more than one full fibre broadband network is available, including in Eastbourne, residents will have more providers to choose from, including independent companies if they wish, or resellers like Plusnet and Sky where Openreach has rolled out.
Not only does this provide more choice, but with increased competition rolling out across the UK it also helps to bring prices down too, with gigabit broadband now available for less than £40 per month in some areas.

"We are grateful to the local community for their continued support and patience whilst we roll out this huge digital upgrade. Once completed, the state-of-the-art digital infrastructure will future-proof the town for decades to come. We can't wait to see how it will benefit Eastbourne in terms of productivity, innovation and new investment in the years ahead.".
