20,000 homes in Wellingborough can now order full fibre broadband through the CityFibre network.
CityFibre, an independent wholesale full fibre network, has completed the primary-build of their full fibre to the home broadband network in Wellingborough.
Covering 20,000 homes, which amounts to around 82% of residential properties in the town and most businesses, residents can now access broadband speeds up to 2.5Gbps.
The XGS-PON network installed in Wellingborough is also future proof and capable of supporting symmetrical speeds up to 10Gbps.
CityFibre started rolling out their full fibre broadband in the town of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire in 2022, and have now completed their primary-build.
The network has passed 20,000 homes, so around 82% of residents can now order full fibre broadband through one of CityFibre's resellers, including TalkTalk and Vodafone.
While CityFibre's network means residents can now access broadband speeds up to 2.2Gbps on average through Vodafone, many homes in the area already had access to Openreach full fibre up to 1.6Gbps and Virgin Media cable up to 1.13Gbps.
However, more competition isn't a bad thing, and CityFibre's network now offers Wellingborough homes broadband with symmetrical download and upload speeds up to 2.2Gbps through Vodafone, as well as options for asymmetrical packages through TalkTalk.
It's also the case that some homes and streets passed by CityFibre in their latest build, may have been previously missed by Virgin Media's cable network. For example, roads in Redhill Grange, as well as to the north of Wellingborough including Chatsworth Drive, Barnwell Road, Gainsborough Drive and Bacon Road and roads off these, have no Virgin Media presence, but are now passed by CityFibre's full fibre network.
Vodafone full fibre broadband starts from as little as £26 per month for 82Mbps average speeds, while TalkTalk's Full Fibre 65 plan offers 77Mbps average speeds for £28 per month.
As the new CityFibre build in Wellingborough uses the latest XGS-PON technology, residents will also be able to order Vodafone's new Full Fibre 2.2 plan from £70 per month, which delivers average download and upload speeds of 2.2Gbps, making it one of the fastest broadband packages in the UK right now.
Charles Kitchin, CityFibre's Partnership Manager for Wellingborough, said, "The rollout of our full fibre network and completion of our primary-build in Wellingborough is excellent progress. This will provide a significant boost to the local economy, making the town one of the best-connected places in the country as it benefits from faster and more reliable broadband. Residents can now enjoy seamless streaming, even when using multiple devices at once, with ample productivity and innovation benefits."
CityFibre say they invested £14 million into the Wellingborough build, laying over 136km of full fibre cabling across the town. While most homes have now been passed and can order full fibre broadband with just a 5-day lead time, CityFibre have also said they'll continue to connect additional properties in the area such as new builds, multi-dwelling units, business parks and homes on private and unadopted roads in the future.
