EE TV Box Pro and EE TV Box Mini now offer support for the Paramount+ streaming app.
BT broadband customers with a TV Box Pro or TV Box Mini will now be able to stream content through the Paramount+ app.
Paramount+ is not included with any of BT or EE's TV plans, but customers can subscribe directly through their TV box with prices from just £4.99 per month.
One caveat is Premium subscribers won't be able to watch content in 4K Ultra HD or listen in Dolby Atmos, and will be capped at 1080p HD instead.
BT and EE TV customers will be pleased to learn they'll now be able to access the Paramount+ app through the TV Box Pro and TV Box Mini devices from this week.
Paramount+ offers unique content, including exclusive original movies and series from studios including Paramount Pictures, Showtime, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon.
Customers will have to sign up to Paramount+ directly if they want to watch the content, but this can be done by signing in to the app from the EE TV boxes.
Paramount+ costs £4.99 per month for their Basic (with ads) plan, which offers viewing in full HD but is limited to streaming on one device at a time with adverts.
The Standard plan costs £7.99 per month, but gives customers the ability to watch on up to two devices simultaneously and removes all adverts.
Lastly, the Premium plan costs £10.99 per month and does boost the resolution to 4K Ultra HD with HDR 10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos surround sound. Subscribers can also watch on up to four devices at a time.
However, BT and EE have said at launch, customers will only be able to view content in full 1080p HD, with support for 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos currently unavailable.
Alistair Wilson, Partnerships Director at EE, commented, "It's our ambition to provide EE TV customers with a truly extensive variety of the very best TV, film, and sport options - and the addition of Paramount+ adds a whole new catalogue of exciting content for our customers to stream. The blockbusters, new originals and hit shows offered by Paramount+ will be a welcome addition for customers and easily accessible for anyone with EE TV."
EE TV can be bundled with any BT broadband deal, including both their full fibre and part fibre plans available to 98% of the UK. Prices start from just £29.99 for average download speeds of 150Mb, while EE TV starts at £20 per month for the Entertainment or Sport plans.
Paramount+ joins other apps supported by the EE TV boxes including Apple TV+, which was added in December 2023 when the boxes rebranded from BT to EE, as well as Netflix, NOW, Prime Video, Discovery+, and YouTube.
While the app support found on EE TV isn't as broad as with either Sky or Virgin Media, it's positive to see the available content for new and existing customers expanding.
The BT / EE TV service also lost the ability to record streamed content from the BBC in August 2024, which left many users somewhat disgruntled.
One of the major selling points of the EE TV service over that of Sky and Virgin Media's newer streaming services, is that the TV Box Pro offers recording capability of up to 600 hours of SD content on a 1TB hard disk drive.
Yet, those who use their TV boxes in Internet mode without an aerial, are now unable to record BBC content and are instead redirected to the BBC iPlayer app.
While this addition of Paramount+ bolsters EE TV's ability to rival Sky and Virgin Media, it still misses out on support for apps like Disney+, Spotify, and Rakuten. Meanwhile, customers of Sky TV who take their Sky Cinema pack will also get a subscription to Paramount+ included at no extra cost.
Michael O'Donnell, Senior Director, Digital Business Development, UK, at Paramount, said, "As Paramount+ continues to grow in reach and popularity across the UK, EE TV joins the range of platforms through which fans of quality entertainment can access our rich content mix. We are delighted to partner with EE TV to further establish Paramount+ as one of the most widely distributed SVoD services in the UK & Ireland and look forward to building on the relationship.".
