TalkTalk Business Broadband packages
TalkTalk Business Broadband offer three main types of package, each focused on fulfilling different small business needs:
- Simply Broadband
- Complete Broadband
- Full Fibre
While we've listed the benefits of TalkTalk Business Broadband above, which all these packages offer, let's look in more detail at the differences.
Simply Broadband
TalkTalk Business Simply broadband is available on basic and superfast fibre lines, with a choice of average download speeds of 17Mb or 74Mb per second.
Simply broadband is the cheapest TalkTalk Business package, and offers companies:
- Basic (17Mb) or superfast part fibre (74Mb) broadband
- Nationwide availability covering 99% and 98% of the UK respectively
- Pay as you go calls
- Free Caller Display
Even the cheapest basic Simply broadband plan comes with an optional free static IP address, and companies can upgrade to up to four extra static IPs if they need them.
Out of allowance calling charges are 6.281 pence per minute to landlines, and up to 12.79 pence per minute for mobiles, with a 6.852p connection charge. Businesses likely to make many calls may want to consider Complete Broadband.
Complete Broadband
TalkTalk Business Complete broadband is a step up from the Simply package, with the main added benefit being:
- Unlimited calls to UK landlines and UK mobiles
- Free calling features including Call Waiting, Caller Display, Multi Calling Threeway
- Up to 2 business premise moves within each 12-month period
Companies can choose from the same basic and superfast part fibre broadband speeds as with Simply, and they'll also have access to one free static IP, and up to four paid for static IP addresses if needed.
The price difference between Simply and Complete is just £6 to £8 per month, so could be worth considering for any companies who make outbound calls in comparison to paying on a pay as you go basis which could easily end up costing more.
Full fibre broadband
Small and medium businesses based in an area where full fibre broadband has been rolled out by Openreach will be able to access TalkTalk Business's full fibre packages.
Full fibre is much more reliable than older connections, and is able to provide faster download and upload speeds too. This means it's much more adequate for businesses who work or collaborate online, whether that's uploading digital content or holding video meetings with remote staff or clients.
Companies can choose from these full fibre speeds:
Average download speed | Average upload speed | |
---|---|---|
Full Fibre 150 | 150Mb | 30Mb |
Full Fibre 500 | 500Mb | 75Mb |
Full Fibre 900 | 900Mb | 115Mb |
TalkTalk Business full fibre packages come as data-only lines as standard, but companies can choose to take a phone line with unlimited calls to UK landlines and mobiles for an extra £12.50 (+ VAT) per month. Companies that do this will get the other benefits included in Complete packages as in the section above.
Aside from the faster speeds, all other features of TalkTalk Business broadband are the same, with a free static IP included, the business-graded WiFi Hub 2, and UK-based support available 365 days a year.
Business broadband and phone
While we've touched on the phone options available with TalkTalk Business Simply, Complete and Full Fibre packages, companies also have the option to bundle extra call plans and add-ons, something they call 'Builders' and 'Boosts'.
- Up to 4 additional static IP addresses: £5 per month
- Mobile 500 minute boost: £5 per month (Simply packages only)
- International 500 minute boost: £5 per month
Businesses operating internationally may want to consider the International 500 Minute Boost for an extra £5 per month.
TalkTalk say it's economical if a business spends more than 12 minutes a day on the phone to following locations:
Australia | Austria | Belgium |
Canada | Canary Islands | China |
Denmark | France | Germany |
Greece | Ireland | Isle of Man |
Italy | Luxembourg | Netherlands |
New Zealand | Norway | Poland |
Portugal | Singapore | Spain |
Sweden | Switzerland | USA |
How fast is TalkTalk Business broadband?
Average broadband speeds given by TalkTalk Business are based on the busiest time of the day for businesses - which is 12pm to 2pm, and so is different to the peak hours for residential users which is given as 8pm to 10pm at night.
At least 50% of a provider's customer base must receive their advertised average speeds during peak times, and so the speeds given by TalkTalk Business are accurate for daytime use when companies are using and reliant on their connections.
The speeds on offer include:
Average download speed | Average upload speed | |
---|---|---|
Basic broadband | 17Mb | 1Mb |
Superfast Fibre | 74Mb | 19Mb |
Full Fibre 150 | 150Mb | 30Mb |
Full Fibre 500 | 500Mb | 75Mb |
Full Fibre 900 | 900Mb | 115Mb |
Basic and superfast part fibre broadband are available to over 98% of premises across the UK, while the full fibre packages have so far reached 16 million of a 25 million target by 2026.
Where businesses can get full fibre they should probably consider it due to the increased reliability, and faster upload speeds that are likely to be felt more with business activities such as uploading or sharing large files and video calling.
Guaranteed speeds
TalkTalk Business offer a guaranteed minimum speed on all of their broadband packages, they promise:
- At least 2.9Mb per second on the 17Mb plan
- At least 55Mb per second on the 74Mb plan
- At least 120Mb per second on the 150Mb plan
- At least 440Mb per second on the 500Mb plan
- At least 725Mb per second on the 900Mb plan
Guaranteed minimum speeds may vary between locations, but it's useful to know TalkTalk Business extend the Broadband Speed Code of Practice voluntary rules to all companies who take their broadband plans.
This means, if TalkTalk Business fail to deliver the minimum speed promised at the time of sign up for a customer's property, and they don't resolve the issue within 30 days, the customer is allowed to leave their contract early penalty free.
How does TalkTalk Business compare?
TalkTalk's business broadband is a budget friendly option for businesses. This is how their full fibre compares to their mainstream competitors:
Package | Broadband | Monthly price | Upfront price | Contract term | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Full Fibre 150 | 152Mb average | £27.95 | £24.95 | 24 months | |
Offer: Money off TalkTalk Business broadband for 24 months | |||||
Business Full Fibre 100 | 100Mb average | £21.20 | Free | 24 months | |
Offer: Save 20% (Ends 30/01/2025) | |||||
Full Fibre 150 Essential + Digital Line | 152Mb average | £35.95 | £29.95 | 24 months | |
Pro + Unlimited UK calls | 150Mb average | £37.95 | Free | 24 months | |
Offer: Save £2/mth + Free installation |
TalkTalk is one of the cheapest options for businesses, although Vodafone is currently cheaper and Sky Business includes unlimited anytime calls as standard.
In terms of the standard features offered by business providers, most are similar but TalkTalk edge it thanks to the different options they offer in their Simply and Complete packages.
Few providers offer basic broadband to business customers these days. Again, TalkTalk is one of the cheapest options here for nationwide availability. Although businesses in very hard-to-reach areas may want to consider rural broadband options as well.
TalkTalk's approach to offering multiple contract options can also help small businesses budget connectivity costs, especially where location may change.
Business WiFi Hub 2
TalkTalk's latest Business WiFi Hub 2, launched in 2020, is designed for businesses, with support for gigabit broadband speeds, 7 internal antenna and one-button WPS pairing.
This router is provided for all customers, whether they take a basic copper, part-fibre or full fibre connection.
It supports up to 50 simultaneously connecting devices and should be capable of WiFi speeds up to 1733Mb across the 2.4GHz (217Mb) and 5GHz (1733Mb) channels.
Here are the main specifications of the Business WiFi Hub 2:
TalkTalk Business WiFi Hub 2 | |
---|---|
WiFi protocol | 5 (802.11ac) |
WiFi band | Dual band |
Antennae | 7 |
2.5GHz channel | 3x3 |
5GHz channel | 4x4 |
Ethernet LAN ports | 4 x 1Gb |
USB | No |
Security | WPA2 |
While the Business WiFi Hub 2 may have been a good model when it launched in 2020, it's now looking a little dated, with most residential broadband packages now coming with a WiFi 6 enabled device.
However, where needed, businesses should be able to upgrade to their own supplied router if they want to.
TalkTalk Business WorkSafe
WorkSafe is TalkTalk's network-level security solution which comes as standard with TalkTalk Business plans.
Key features of WorkSafe include:
- Block selected categories of website (all the time or during business hours)
- Block websites suspected to be infected with viruses or malicious content
- Access to online Support Centre to manage settings at any time
TalkTalk say the benefits of WorkSafe are:
- Ability to block inappropriate or dangerous content
- Instant protection for all devices
- Eliminate the need for additional solutions or hardware
- No impact on browsing speeds
There are no limits to the number of devices that can be protected with WorkSafe, and TalkTalk estimates it saves businesses £3 per user compared to adding extra solutions to a SME's business broadband package.
Business-level support
One of the main differences between business broadband and home broadband packages is the level of support on offer.
TalkTalk Business customers will be provided with UK-based support that's made available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to ensure businesses get the help they need quickly.
In terms of customer satisfaction with connectivity and support, TalkTalk Business have a Trustpilot rating of 4.8 out of a 5, or 'Excellent'. They've been rated by 19,625 reviewers, with most companies having a positive experience and leaving a 5 star review.
TalkTalk Business perform well in comparison to other business broadband providers as well. XLN a dedicated business provider has a Trustscore of 4.4 from over 24,000 reviews, while BT Business is rated 3 out of 5, although they only have 2870 reviews.
Verdict: Is TalkTalk Business broadband any good?
As we've explored in this TalkTalk Business broadband review, TalkTalk's service incorporates features like an inclusive static IP we might expect to pay extra for with other providers.
Their range of business packages are varied, although there aren't too many to make their offering confusing.
In addition, there's a refreshing lack of paid extras inching the monthly bill up every month. This makes for a more transparent billing experience which will be of benefit to small businesses especially.
The rollout of full fibre business deals adds another dimension to TalkTalk Business fibre broadband, and businesses interested in the improved download and upload speeds should keep an eye out for it expanding to their area.
We like TalkTalk Business for:
- Their two-tier packages allowing customers to take inclusive business calls if they want to
- Offering a standard broadband option which some business ISPs don't
- A positive reputation on Trustpilot
- Inclusion of WorkSafe security as standard
- Offering an optional static IP address at no extra cost
The downsides are:
- Works to the same few-frills model as their home broadband, although this could be an advantage for some businesses
- Few contract length options with businesses needing to commit to 24-month plans
Overall, TalkTalk's broadband offer for businesses is a strong one, particularly when we look at their pricing in comparison to other providers like BT or Sky.
